BY KATIE WHITEHEAD, DIRECTOR, THE PRESCHOOL AT CHRIST THE KING

One of my favorite things about being a part of The Preschool at Christ the King is experiencing first-hand how God brought each and every teacher to be a part of this amazing program.

In the fall of 2013, while serving in the church nursery, I had the pleasure of meeting a sweet little baby girl with big blue eyes named Sara Cate. I remember her vividly because she had such a gentle calm demeanor and yet attentive to every detail. She was quiet but strong. No surprise when I met her mother, Rebecca, she is the model of steadfast faithfulness, peace and calm, quiet but strong. Rebecca Knapp is entering her third year at The Preschool and has brought her passion for teaching, her joy for life, and her love for the Lord to every detail. We are delighted that we have been able to get to know her husband Robby and Sara Cate’s little sisters, Reily and Emma as students. I love that Rebecca says people might describe her as “laid back”. True – and so much more! Her presence is an absolute gift to The Preschool ministry and I know that the Lord is using her for his glory in the lives of these little ones, their families and our entire team.

Where did you grow up? Where does your family live now?

I grew up in Dallas, but have lived in Houston for 12 years.

What was your favorite thing to do or play with as a child?

My favorite thing to do as a child was to play outside. My grandmother has an amazingly huge sandpile in her backyard full of real utensils and sieves and a water hose close by!

What do you remember about your first years of preschool or school?

I remember singing in preschool. I loved circle time, singing with the teacher and using the wooden rhythm sticks as we sang.

How did you meet your husband?

I met my husband in Dallas after college. I had moved back to Dallas after school and he was still living there after finishing at SMU. We met through one of my high school friends who had gone to SMU with Robby.

What are your children’s names and ages?

Sara Cate 7, Reily 5, Emma 4

What do your children say about having you be a teacher at The Preschool?

They have loved having me at the preschool while they are there, and my oldest wants to be a teacher!

What is your favorite meal to cook at your house?

I love making pizza from scratch with my girls.

What do you love to do when you are not at The Preschool?

I love doing yoga! And I love being outside with my girls.

What led you to answer the call to be a part of building The Preschool at Christ the King?

Katie Whitehead is the reason I became a teacher at Christ the King. Her love for God and others drew me in! There was never a question about not teaching when I met Katie.

What is one word that other people would use to describe you?

Laid back

What is your prayer for this ministry? And how can we pray specifically for you?

My prayer is that each child we teach would know God intimately and develop a sense of independence and wonder as they grow. I would love that same prayer over my own children. That they would know and experience, on a deep level, the love God has for them.
